5 RPGs that are harder than Skyrim

A selection of adventures for those who are not looking for easy ways in games. Skyrim has it all, including the highly challenging game that many players desire. However, there are titles that are much more difficult to complete.

Skyrim

When it comes to cult RPGs, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is usually at the top of the list. However, it is difficult to call this title the best RPG, and many fans believe that this is not even the best game of The Elder Scrolls. So why do players constantly return to the snowy expanses of Skyrim?

It was the dynamic difficulty setting system that made Skyrim appealing to the masses. Players with a wide variety of preferences come together to experience this game, take it apart pixel by pixel. The dynamic difficulty system with the ability to make the passage really difficult also significantly increases the replay value. However, we know of five games that are much more difficult than even Skyrim at the Legendary level.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Skyrim is considered to be the simplest game in the The Elder Scrolls series. At the time of launch, Morrowind had no game modes, and even at the start it was much more difficult than Skyrim. In Skyrim, from the very beginning, there were levels of difficulty, for example “Expert” and “Legendary”, which offer to test your skills. However, Morrowind, due to its uncompromising system of dialogue, character control and pumping, bypasses the fifth part of the series with his eyes closed.

Divinity: Original Sin II

Divinity: Original Sin II

Divinity: Original Sin II is widely recognized for its thoughtful design and RPG elements. The game is divided into acts, the second being much more difficult than the first. This title took the RPG genre to a whole new level. Divinity: Original Sin II was created by the developers of Baldur’s Gate 3. Playing as a squad of four, it becomes quite obvious that this is much more difficult than managing one protagonist from Skyrim. It will take you about sixty hours to complete this game, which is incredibly long compared to the main story of Skyrim, which takes about 33 hours.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has a good training system for the player, so at first the passage does not cause problems. You will have a few quiet hours in the game, after which complexity will collapse on your shoulders like a concrete slab. Suddenly, you will have to use all the spells and attacks of the Witcher to survive the fights.

The great thing about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is that the game isn’t overly complicated. However, it is nowhere near as simple as Skyrim. If you’re new to role-playing games, try Skyrim and then The Witcher.

Dark souls

Dark souls

When it comes to RPGs, Dark Souls is considered the benchmark for complexity. When deciding whether a new title can be called difficult, it is always compared to Dark Souls, and it’s not just that.

Dark Souls is not just more difficult than Skyrim, a fifth of the scrolls were not even close. The difficulty levels built into Dark Souls make it one of the hardest games of all time. The developers even named the version of the game “Prepare to Die Edition” because of its incredible difficulty. You will die over and over again on your way to the finale until you learn each location by heart.

Gothic

Gothic

The unsurpassed leader of all times and peoples in terms of difficulty of passing is Gothic. This RPG rewrote all the canons of the game. If the Witcher has good training, and Skyrim has difficulty levels, then Gothic has none of this. The player immediately disappears into a large and cruel world, where even a couple of rats can kill him.

In addition, this game is extremely difficult not only in combat, but also in social interaction. Everyone around will be rude to the character and will not trust him until he proves his honesty or usefulness. Finding a companion without dumping a lump sum is almost unrealistic, and any mistake in the dialogue can lead to the complete collapse of the quest. And no fast travel! Gothic can deservedly be called the most difficult RPG.

For our top, we chose games with a style of gameplay similar to Skyrim. Of course, there are other difficult RPGs, such as Age of Decadence or Baldur’s gate, but they are completely different from Skyrim, so they were not included in the selection.
