Lock, money, two barrels. Big jackpot. Gentlemen. Sherlock Holmes. Guy Ritchie. Collage

After the release of films such as “Gentlemen” and “Human anger” popularity Guy Ritchie rose again to unprecedented heights. Everyone has probably heard about this director. Richie managed to create his own unique style, which he may or may not like, but his films regularly become classics and arouse genuine public interest.

What are the characteristic features of the British director’s tapes? Basically, these are crime comedies with action elements. Humor is presented here through absurdity and grotesque – sometimes what is happening on the screen does not look fun at all, but the viewer cannot help smiling. However, Richie is also an experimenter, so in his filmography there are enough cases of deviation from the author’s style.

Gone

Gone

Director: Guy Ritchie

Genre: romance

Year of issue: 2002

Probably, in the career of every director there are films that are really difficult to be proud of. “Gone” – just such a case, the picture received 5 anti-awards at once “Golden raspberry” and failed miserably at the box office. Richie probably just wanted to film his wife, Madonna, but as we know, the diva sings much better than plays roles on the set. In addition, the picture is a remake of the film. 1974 year, and its hackneyed plot has long lost its relevance.

Amber and Giuseppe do not tolerate each other. During the cruise, a married and extremely arrogant woman abuses a common sailor. However, when a couple finds themselves on a desert island, the situation changes and the hearts of random fellow travelers are filled with tender feelings.

Revolver

Revolver

Director: Guy Ritchie

Genre: Drama

Year of issue: 2005

ribbon “Revolver” for Guy Ritchie both typical and unique. The main role here is played by the director’s favorite actor – Jason Statham, and the plot revolves around gambling, money and the underworld. However, the script is imbued with extraordinary irony, it literally makes you reflect on the meaning of everything that exists, and splits the film into a kind of mosaic, which is very difficult to assemble even for a sophisticated viewer.

It is worth noting that action film directors rarely make such films, imbued with philosophy. Revolver is not your ordinary, lighthearted bully Richie, this film is more and it is definitely recommended for viewing.

King Arthur’s sword

King Arthur's sword

Director: Guy Ritchie

Genre: Fantasy

Year of issue: 2017

When Guy Ritchie took up pseudo-historical cinema, many grabbed their heads and not without reason. “Sword of King Arthur” – this is not a film adaptation of the famous legend, but its complete rethinking, alternative adventures invented by the scriptwriters. Richie, in his own style, made a bouncy action out of the plot provided, but the box office failure and negative reviews from critics could not be avoided.

However, the director’s handwriting in this film is easily guessed, but in a medieval environment this does not always seem appropriate. Initially, the studio planned to shoot a whole series of films about King Arthur, but the failure on all fronts forced this idea to be shelved.

Human anger

Human anger

Director: Guy Ritchie

Genre: Action

Year of issue: 2021

If we are used to that Guy Ritchie shoots comedic action films saturated with irony, “Human anger” out of the ordinary. The main role in the film went to Jason Statham and I must say that she suits him perfectly. We got quite a serious action movie that will never become a really iconic movie, but it will turn out to be good entertainment for the evening.

Of the features of the film, it is worth highlighting the laconic and restrained action scenes, which look surprisingly solid, because this is not Richie’s forte. Before us is the story of vengeance – once H lost his son and is now ready to do anything to find the murderers and take revenge.

Agents A.N.K.L.

Agents A.N.K.L.

Director: Guy Ritchie

Genre: Action, Comedy

Year of issue: 2015

It would not be an exaggeration to say that the picture “Agents A.N.K.L” – bright predecessor “Gentlemen”… It was in this film Guy Ritchie moved away from simple, in places vulgar and absurd humor – in his arsenal were polished, stylish heroes and subtle, intelligent jokes. The film starred such famous actors as Hugh grant and Henry Cavill, but the picture is still difficult to call a commercially successful project.

In the midst of the Cold War, special services agents USA and the USSR forced to unite for the sake of confrontation with an influential neo-fascist organization. Of course, there is an atmosphere of tension in the relationship between the protagonists, but they will have to get along to save the world.

Rock and Roller

Rock and Roller

Director: Guy Ritchie

Genre: Thriller

Year of issue: 2008

And here is the tape “Rock and Roller” With Gerard Butler, Tom Hardy and Idris Elba – this is real, one hundred percent Guy Ritchie… After numerous experiments, the director returned to a familiar environment and shot his typical crime comedy. Richie attracted a stellar cast and made the right decision – the viewer appreciated the film and recognized it as one of the best in Guy’s portfolio. However, the box office of the picture turned out to be quite modest, which is a little upsetting.

It makes no sense to retell the content of “Rock-n-Roller” – a non-linear plot, a huge number of characters, an endless series of events. On the screen, there is simply an orgy of images. Sometimes even fans of Guy Ritchie have to watch the film several times to understand all its intricacies.

Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes

Director: Guy Ritchie

Genre: Action

Year of issue: 2009

After the films “Gone” and “Sword of King Arthur” it was hard to count that Richie adapts a novel Conan Doyle in some decent manner. We are again waiting for a free interpretation and an original plot with Robert Downey Jr. starring. However, another experiment turned out to be surprisingly successful – the audience was satisfied with the tape, and we know how meticulous the audience is about adaptations of classical works.

It may seem to many that Sherlock Holmes Richie looks incredibly like a certain doctor Hausa from medicine. He no longer talks about crimes in a comfortable armchair, but constantly acts, is not afraid to stain his fists with someone else’s blood and has considerable expression. I am glad that although the film has become an action movie, it still remains a detective story in its essence.

Gentlemen

Gentlemen

One of the most recent films Guy Ritchie brings us back to the era of paintings “Lock, Stock, Two Barrels” and “Big jackpot”… Let’s express the popular opinion – “Gentlemen” are clearly inferior to the masterpieces listed above, the author’s gaze is somewhat blurred and the style is stagnating on his face. However, for fans of the director, this is an empty phrase. Colin Farrell, Hugh grant and Matthew McConaughey pull the tape to the highest level.

Guy Ritchie reopens before us a non-linear storytelling with bandits, cockney, stylish costumes and a lot of bright characters who do not know what political correctness is. The plot is assembled according to patterns familiar to the viewer and will become an exciting adventure for fans of the genre.
