SPECIAL POOL DETECTED MEMORY CORRUPTION is a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error that interrupts the user and immediately restarts the computer. This code has validation value 0x000000C1 and can be triggered due to several system crashes. Like many other similar errors, the problem occurs on many versions of Windows, including XP, 7, 8, and 10.
Although this error can be annoying, for example, due to the loss of unsaved work on the computer, it serves an important function, as it informs that the system is out of order and further operation may damage it. Basically, it is a protection tool to prevent serious damage to your computer.
Why does the SPECIAL POOL DETECTED MEMORY CORRUPTION error appear?
To be precise, the error code indicates a malfunction of RAM (random access memory) – a hardware component that is responsible for reading and writing various data as needed. However, this is not the only reason for the BSOD screen to appear. Other reasons why the error may occur:
- damaged drivers;
- malware infection;
- software incompatibility problems;
- damage to system files.
Solution 1: Run the Program Compatibility and Troubleshooter
In some cases, incompatible programs can conflict with each other and cause crashes, so you should run the troubleshooter:
- Right-click on the Windows icon (bottom left).
- Select Control Panel and go to the Troubleshoot section.
- Next, go to the View All Categories tab.
- Select Troubleshoot compatibility issues.
- In the pop-up window, click next, and wait for the scan to finish.
- Reboot your computer.
Solution 2. Check the disk for errors
There is an automatic Windows tool for this:
- Press the Win + E keyboard shortcut to open File Explorer.
- On the left side, select This PC.
- Right-click the main drive (by default C 🙂 and go to Properties.
- Select the Service tab.
- In the Error Checking section, click Check.
- In the pop-up window, confirm the check and wait for the system to perform diagnostics.
Solution 3. Run SFC scans
SFC scan is a great built-in tool that can find and fix corrupted system files. To run it, you need to access the command line as administrator:
- Type cmd in a Windows search.
- Right-click on the command line icon, and select Run as administrator.
- In the window that opens, enter sfc / scannow and press Enter.
- Wait for the scan results to see if Windows was able to fix the problem.
- If the SFC scan fails, enter the following command:
- Dism / Online / Cleanup-Image / RestoreHealth
- When finished, reboot the system.
Solution 4: Check your RAM using the Windows Media Diagnostic Tool
As mentioned earlier, RAM failure can be the root cause of BSODs. You can check if this is the case by running the Windows Media Diagnostic Tool:
- Right-click on the Windows icon and select the Run section.
- In the window that opens, enter mdsched.exe and click OK.
- Select Reboot and Check to run memory diagnostics.
- Keep in mind that this will immediately restart your computer, so make sure all open programs and files are saved.
Solution 5: Check for problematic drivers / update drivers
In some cases, the cause of the BSOD SPECIAL POOL DETECTED MEMORY CORRUPTION is the Realtek Wireless USB 2.0 adapter driver. Therefore, you should check if there is a yellow exclamation mark next to it. If so, update or reinstall the driver.
- Right click on the Windows icon and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Network adapters section.
- Find the Realtek driver, right click and select Update Drivers.
- In the next window, select Search automatically for driver updates.
- Wait for the updates to install and restart your computer.
Solution 6. Check your computer for malware
The presence of malware on a computer can lead to serious problems, including causing various errors and failures. It is recommended to run a full system scan using a third-party antivirus. If there is none, you can use the built-in Windows Defender.
- Right click on the Windows icon and go to Control Panel.
- Next, select the Windows Defender section.
- Check the box next to Full scan, and click Verify now.
