Fallout 76 not responding to keystrokes, how to fix?

Fallout 76 has a lot of various bugs, which is why the game was heavily criticized by players. Most of the flaws relate to the gameplay, but there are those that do not allow the game to start at all. One of these problems is the blocking of the mouse and keyboard when starting Fallout 76. After clicking on any buttons, nothing happens. A similar problem is typical for the PC version of the game.

What to do in case of an error?

Users often start complaining about this problem after updating Fallout 76 to the latest patch. Because of this, we can conclude that the cause is a software failure. Immediately there is a desire to update drivers or reinstall the game, but these methods will not lead to anything.

The real reason for the crash is the game is being blocked by a firewall. Typically, the Windows security system asks the user whether to allow or block the application. Due to a failure, the error window does not appear or is displayed with a long delay, after entering the game itself. In both cases, the player does not notice the firewall notification, because it appears under the game window. After an emergency closure of the application, the notification closes with it.

If the firewall blocked Fallout 76 in total until the user’s decision, just minimize the window and click on the “Allow” item in the defender window. This is the simplest solution and helps half the time. Some users have reported that the firewall is not displayed when starting the game for the first time. If Fallout 76 does not respond to the buttons and there is no notification, you can try restarting the game 2-3 times.

The firewall may never ask for permission to run Fallout 76, or the user accidentally chooses “Block”. In both cases, you will have to manually open the firewall setting and allow Fallout 76 to work.

How to fix the error:

  1. Click on the “Start” button and select “Control Panel”.
  2. Click on the Windows Firewall tile.
  3. Click on the menu option “Allow interaction with the application …”.
  4. Find Fallout 76 in the list of various components and programs.
  5. Check the boxes in both columns near the game.

After unlocking the game in the firewall, Fallout 76 starts correctly handling all button presses.
