Automatic game updates on PS4 make life much easier for the user. If it is enabled, then you do not need to manually monitor the released updates for games. However handy this feature is, many people still prefer it to be completely disabled. It could be because a new update causes the game to crash suddenly, or you are just saving data traffic. Here’s a quick guide on how to turn off automatic updates on your PlayStation 4.
How to turn off automatic updates for PlayStation 4 games
- On the main screen, go to the settings section by clicking on the button representing the “Portfolio”.
- Select “System” from the list (NOT “System software updates”).
- Select the line “Automatic downloads”.
- After – uncheck the box next to “Application update files”.
This action will stop all automatic updates for games and applications. After that, you can turn off the set-top box or put it into sleep mode. Updates will no longer be downloaded without your participation.
Manual update
Now that automatic updates are disabled, you will need to do it manually. After all, your games still need these updates, but only now you can control which games you update and at what time. To update manually, go to Notifications, press Options on the joystick and proceed to download. Here you can keep track of which games and applications you have installed and which updates are ready to download. Now you can choose the update of your choice.
