How to fix error 0x8024001F?
Method # 1 Using the built-in troubleshooter
In Windows, you can find the system troubleshooter. Unfortunately, such a tool from Microsoft does not often fulfill the task assigned to it, however, at times it can still help solve the problem.
To run the troubleshooter, you need to do the following (example for Windows 10):
- press Windows + I on your keyboard to open System Settings;
- then open the “Update and Security” section;
- go to the “Troubleshooting” subsection on the left side of the window;
- click on the “Windows Update” item and click on the “Run the troubleshooter” button;

After applying the suggested solution, check if you can update Windows and if error 0x8024001F appears.
Method # 2 Launch SFC and DISM
You may not be able to update Windows properly due to corrupted system files. This is where System File Checker and DISM come to your rescue. These tools are somewhat different in their functionality, but, in other words, they will help you return the system to its previous performance.
To use SFC and DISM, you need to follow these steps:
- right-click on the taskbar and select “Command line (administrator)”;
- run the following two commands:
- Dism.exe / online / cleanup-image / scanhealth
- Dism.exe / online / cleanup-image / restorehealth
- restart your computer;
- open Command Prompt again;
- write the command “sfc / scannow” and press Enter;
- reboot the computer again when the tool finishes working.
Using SFC and DISM services, try updating your Windows. This time, the error 0x8024001F may not be present.
Method # 3 Remove third-party antivirus (if applicable)
Did you know that some antivirus programs can interfere with various operations in Windows? For example, third-party antiviruses can easily block the process of downloading and installing updates for the system. Such antiviruses include McAfee, AVAST, Sophos and others. We recommend that you disable or completely remove your antivirus, and then see if the error situation changes.
Method # 4 System Restore (for Windows 10)
If you still have not managed to get rid of the error when updating the system, then we recommend using the return of the computer to its original state. Simply put, you can reinstall your Windows 10 OS without deleting your personal data. This operation is performed as follows:
- press Windows + I;
- open the section “Update and Security”;
- go to the “Recovery” section;
- click on the “Start” button in the “Reset the computer to its original state” section;
- then select the “Save my files” option;
- and finally, click on the “Reset” button.
Wait for your PC to return to its original state. Once logged into Windows, check if the error 0x8024001F has been resolved.
