When trying to sign in to their Xbox account, Xbox 360 owners may encounter error code 8015d002. The error itself looks like this:
You entered an incorrect password, or the email address you entered does not have an Xbox status. Please try again later.

You might think that the problem is with an unpaid Xbox Live subscription, however, in most cases, it is reported that this error occurs even with a paid subscription.
Causes of Error 8015D002
- Incorrect password.
- Bug during login.
- Two-Step Verification is enabled.
- Corrupted system cache.
Getting rid of error 8015D002
Method # 1 Disable 2-Step Verification
The whole error issue could be 2-step verification that is activated for your account. At least that’s what Microsoft claims. Unfortunately, you will need to use a browser on your PC or phone to deactivate 2-Step Verification. Try the following steps:
- go to your account on the Microsoft website;
- go to the section “Security and privacy”, then – “Additional security settings”;
- select “Disable two-step verification”;
- as soon as a confirmation request appears in front of you, click on the “Yes” button.
Try logging into your Xbox 360 account again. This time, error 8015D002 might have disappeared.
Method # 2 Use an app password to sign in to Xbox Live
With 2-Step Verification enabled, you can create a new password for the app and try to enter it when you sign in to your account. This way you can work around error 8015D002 and continue using your console normally. Try the following:
- go to your account on the Microsoft website;
- go to “Security and privacy” → “Advanced security settings” → “Application passwords”;
- select the item “Create a new password for the application” and, accordingly, create a new password;
- Now sign in to your Xbox 360 account using your Microsoft email and the app password you just created.
Everything, in this situation, you should not encounter any error 8015D002.
Method # 3 Transfer your Xbox profile to another storage
Perhaps the most effective method of all presented here. Many players claim that transferring their Xbox profile to another storage helped them get rid of error 8015D002. However, be aware that this may not be a complete method, but rather a workaround. Simply put, after moving the profile to another location, this code may reappear on your console.
- As soon as error 8015D002 appears in front of you, hold down the guide button and turn off the Xbox 360;
- turn on the console and wait until all the necessary software is loaded and you will be taken to the main menu;
- then go to “Settings” → “Memory”;
- after going to the memory section, go to the storage where your Xbox profile is located, then press “Y” on the controller and select the storage where you want to move the profile;
- confirm your intentions by selecting “Yes” when prompted to do so;
- once the transfer is complete, restart your Xbox 360.
When you sign in to the console, you will need to select your Xbox profile by selecting its new location on a different drive. No error 8015D002 should appear in this case. We remind you that this may only be a temporary solution.
Method # 4 Clear the Xbox 360 System Cache
Also, a similar problem could occur due to the system cache of the Xbox 360. Fortunately, you can easily get rid of it by doing the following:
- go to “Settings” → “System settings” → “Memory”;
- now select any storage and press the “Y” button on the controller;
- then select the option “Clear system cache”;
- restart your Xbox 360.
See if error 8015D002 has been fixed.
