Error SU-42481-9 occurs on PS4 while downloading or installing console updates. Complaints about this problem began to come back in mid-2018, however, its appearance can be observed in 2020.
Error SU-42481-9 occurs, usually for the following two reasons:
- temporary files on the console prevent it from updating normally;
- the files of the update itself were corrupted during the download process, and therefore the PS4 update is interrupted by an error.
We are now going to show you how to get rid of this error and get your PS4 back into working order.
Solution for error SU-42481-9 on PS4
Solution # 1 Hardware restart of the console
From time to time, small bugs appear on the Japanese console that prevent it from working properly. Due to such bugs, for example, the system update or the connection to the PSN may be interrupted.
The error SU-42481-9 could just be caused by one of these bugs. All you need to do is perform a hardware restart of your console – and the trick is in the bag! To perform this restart, do the following:
- turn off your PS4 completely;
- disconnect the power cable from it;
- hold down the power button on the front of the console for 30 seconds;
- wait about five minutes, then plug everything back in and turn on the PS4.
Try updating your console again.
Solution # 2 Upgrade through safe mode
If a hard restart did not help you, then you can try updating your PS4 through Safe Mode. However, to do this, you will need to have a PC / Mac, and also get yourself an empty USB drive.
Don’t worry, the process is simple enough – we’ll walk you through it right now. Try the following on your PS4:
- create a folder named “PS4” on the USB-drive;
- now create a folder called “UPDATE” in the “PS4” folder;
- download the update file for PS4 from this page;
The note: be sure to download from the PS4 Update File Download section.
- place the downloaded PS4UPDATE.PUP in the “UPDATE” folder;
- then connect the controller to the PS4 using a USB cable, and then insert the USB storage with the update into the corresponding port of the console;
- hold down the power button on the front of the PS4 and release it as soon as you hear the second beep – you will enter safe mode;
- using the controller, select the item “Update system software”;
- then select “Update from USB storage” and “OK”.
The console update process will start immediately if you have done everything correctly. Wait for it to finish. Of course, no SU-42481-9 error will appear on your PS4 in this case.
