While using software such as TeamViewer, you may encounter the following message:
Assumed commercial use
This software may be used in a commercial environment. Please be aware that the free version can only be used for personal purposes.
Thank you for your honesty.
Or here’s another message from the same “opera”:
Commercial use detected
This software may be used in a commercial environment. Please be aware that the free version can only be used for personal purposes.
The session will be terminated after 5 minutes.
If you are faced with a similar problem, then you probably should know that TeamViewer can be conditionally considered free: while you use it for personal purposes, the software can be obtained completely free of charge, but if you try to use the program for commercial purposes, pay for the license.
This is where the problem comes up: TeamViewer can tell you for any reason that you have started using it for commercial purposes, although this is absolutely not the case. Moreover, it is impossible to prove the opposite to the software. For example, TeamViewer can detect commercial use with a simple reconnection, according to some users complaining about a problem with the program.
In today’s article, we will look at this problem with you and try to get TeamViewer back into working order for you.
“Assumed commercial use” in TeamViewer
Well, let’s say the most obvious: you have already “caught” one of the above messages, otherwise you would not be reading these lines now. It seemed to you that you were using the TeamViewer software for personal purposes, for example, contacting your friends / family and the like, but it is persistently trying to prove the opposite. It happened – the problem needs to be fixed somehow.
So, in order to get rid of the messages “Suggesting commercial use” or “Found commercial use” in TeamViewer, you need to follow the next series of steps.
- First, close the TeamViewer program if it is still open for you. Among other things, open the Task Manager and make sure that no processes associated with this program are running on the system. If they work, complete them.
- Now open the “Programs and Features” system element and remove the TeamViewer program from your computer. You can also use specialized software, the task of which is to uninstall all kinds of applications.
- Now open Run (Windows + R) and write% appdata% in the blank, then press Enter. After opening the folder called Roaming, find the TeamViewer folder in it and delete it.
- Next, press Windows + R again and enter the regedit value in an empty line to open the Windows Registry Editor. Here you need to thoroughly dig into the registry of your system and delete everything that will be related to the TeamViewer software.
- Next, open the Program Files folder in the system section and delete the TeamViewer folder.
- Next, you need to change the MAC address of your computer to any other, and then save the changes. This step is critical to the success of the method.
- And finally, you have a little trick left to do, which also plays an extremely important role among all these actions. So, download Attribute Changer to your computer. With its help, you will need to change the creation date of the Program Files folder from which we previously deleted the TeamViewer folder. TeamViewer probably checks this information before imposing restrictions.
Once you have completed all of the above, you need to install TeamViewer on your computer again. This time, the limitation in the form of messages “Suggesting commercial use” or “Detected commercial use” will not occur. However, you should have asked the following question: what actions should I avoid, so as not to catch the block from TeamViewer again? Well, you definitely shouldn’t use TeamViewer:
- provide assistance to clients of the organization for which you work, or its employees;
- connect to a PC at work via a PC at home;
- provide assistance to all kinds of enterprises or even their employees.
Refrain from the above actions – and anything similar to them – and you will be fine. However, TeamViewer may still suspect at some point that it is being used for commercial purposes. Yes, this can be very annoying, but there’s nothing you can do about it.
