As a rule, with long-term use of an Android device, users may start to encounter a variety of errors. Among them, sometimes you can see error 492, which occurs when you try to install a game or application from the Google Play store. In this article, you will learn what triggers error 492 and what you need to do to prevent it from reoccurring.
Causes of error 492 on Google Play
Any application that has access to the Internet and is associated with viewing any information from the network, over time, accumulates a large number of temporary files in the device’s memory. These temporary files are called cache. In order to speed up the reloading of certain pages and data, as well as reduce traffic consumption, applications save part of the information in the device’s memory. This also applies to the Google Play app, which stores screenshots, icons, image previews and text data that you view in the store. As soon as the volume of this data reaches a volume that affects the operation of the smartphone, the application may interrupt the download of new data and generate error 492.
How to troubleshoot error 492
Method # 1
First of all, try to clear the system application cache using the system itself:
- Open your device’s Settings and go to the Apps category.
- Open the properties of the Google Play Services application and the Google Play Store one by one.
- Clear the cache and erase application data by clicking the corresponding buttons.
- Restart your device and try to download the app from the GooglePlay store again.
Method # 2
If the first method was not effective enough and you continue to see error 492, we recommend that you do a deeper cleaning of your device’s system data using the Recovery menu. Please note that this will delete all data from all applications and some of them will require re-authorization.
To enter Recovery-boot, do the following:
- Turn off the device.
- Hold down the volume down key and, while continuing to hold it, press the power button of the device.
- Wait for the manufacturer’s logo or Android logo to appear on the display, release the power key without releasing the volume down key.
Note: Please note that in some devices, Recovery can be called up by pressing the volume up key. The rest of the algorithm is identical.
As soon as the Recovery menu appears on the screen, the control system is activated using physical keys on the body of the device – volume keys (up / down) and a lock key (confirmation of selection):
- Select WipeData / FactoryReset and confirm.
- On the next screen, you need to select the line with the word Yes, among the large number of items No. This is a kind of protection against erroneous item selection.
- Wait until the erasing process is complete.
Select Reboot to reboot the device.
After turning on the device again, open the Google Play store and go through the authorization process using your username and password. Error 492 shouldn’t bother you anymore.
