It can be a shame to spend money and time on a frankly failed video game, but it’s even worse when a good title spoils the impression of yourself at the end.
Unfortunately, there are some really solid projects in the video game industry that are fun to go through, but the ending spoils the whole impression… I am especially sorry for the several dozen hours spent that could have been devoted to something else.
Such situations leave a strong negative impression, namely due to the effect of surprise, because a captivating narrative that sharply slides into a disastrous ending will unpleasantly surprise any player. Especially note the disappointing climax, when the protagonists never reach their goal, and instead of a logical conclusion, only a ringing uncertainty remains.
10th place: Fallout 3
In general, the narrative in Fallout 3 is far from perfect, but compared to the ending it is simply masterpiece. After completing the game, a simple scene will be displayed, which tells the story of the main character who left his native Vault 101 in search of his missing father. A few more collages will also be shown, depending on the decisions made by the player.
Installing and completing add-ons Broken Steel will make the climax more logical, but even taking into account the DLC, the plot and the ending are significantly inferior to Fallout: New Vegas. Plus, gamers don’t have to pay for additional content just to get the normal storyline ending.
9th place: Mass Effect 3
Throughout the Mass Effect trilogy, it seemed that the player’s decisions and choices are important and affect the world… And this was from the beginning from the first part to the second, and then from the second to the third, without taking into account the ending.
Compared to other projects, the climax of Mass Effect 3 was not so bad, but loss of colossal potentialthat has formed throughout the series is very disappointing. Bioware fans got it in the gut all their previous decisions boiled down to three very meager options… The Extended Cut add-on slightly corrected the situation, but for many fans it came out too late.
8th place: Assassin’s Creed 3
The problem of terrible endings of the third parts of famous titles haunts Assassin’s Creed 3. Some believe that this game is the worst of the whole series, but there are those who are willing to argue with this statement. But every player will agree that the climax here is clearly bad…
Firstly, Connor accidentally kills Charles Lee drinking, which is one of the most disappointing character arc endings ever. Second, the second main character Desmond sacrifices himself to save the world from the fiery apocalypse, but why he does it and how he came to such a decision is still not clear. No causation and character disclosure.
7th place: The Last of Us 2
Controversy about The Last of Us 2 began to surface even before the release of the game, and after the release they became even more. This undoubtedly high-quality project is very controversial, but even fans of the second part agree that the climax was too long…
Maybe, the plot needed to be completed before Ellie went to avenge… Thus, it was possible to avoid the strange decisions of the main characters and the frankly unsuccessful final battle. But Naughty Dogs clearly knows better, so it is hoped that the developers will draw the right conclusions from their own failures.
6th place: Borderlands
The whole game Borderlands intrigues aliens with secrets and incredible technologythat are hidden in the Vault. Moreover, most of what is happening is just to get into it. And when the long-awaited moment of opening the treasury comes, another tedious boss appears.
Defeating the Destroyer will grant some rare loot, followed by a cutscene showing that The vault closes again for the next 200 years… And after all, after so many years, some poor fellow will break into a mysterious place again in the hope of finding ancient relics, and will only find a terrible monster.
5th place: Batman: Arkham Asylum
Perhaps the main feature of the Joker that makes him such a memorable antagonist is his brilliant mind. He is the only villain from the DC Universe who can regularly fool Batman himself. therefore the climax of Batman: Arkham Asylum seems so unnatural…
Instead of trying to outsmart the cloaked bat, the Joker pumps himself up with some incredible serum that mutates into a huge, muscular monster. Undoubtedly, in this form, the villain looks impressive, but ultimately this is a pretty standard fight, similar to most in the game… It is this controversial decision that is the only cloudy spot in the entire series.
4th place: Resident Evil 6
The sixth part is considered the most controversial in the series, and this is largely due to chaotic storytelling… Capcom made the unusual decision to tell the story of Resident Evil 6 in four storylines, so the ending turned out to be crumpled…
Despite the fact that the last line of Ada closes all the resulting plot holes, many players by this moment are so lost in the twists and turns and timelines that missing the thread of the story… In addition, going into action and too easy puzzles doesn’t fit the general style of the series.
3rd place: Half-Life 2: Episode 2
If Valve had immediately planned 2 episodes for Half-Life 2, and not 3, then most likely the ending of the game would have been made much better. On the other hand, when you consider how popular the franchise is and how many people are waiting for the third part, it can be assumed that the writers of the series have a completely different outlook on things than most fans of the title. Howbeit, Gordon Freeman’s story is still in limbo…
After defeating the final boss, the protagonist receives thanks from the mysterious G-Men, who shoves him back into the stasis capsule, promising future tasks. Half-Life fans are still waiting for these missions…
If a sequel were released a year or two after Episode 2, then such an open ending could be understood. But given the 15 years that have passed since the game was released, the climax was just awful…
2nd Place: Cyberpunk 2077
Another controversial game, but unlike the polished The Last of Us 2, the Cyberpunk 2077 experience was severely spoiled by disastrously poor optimization. Nevertheless, some players were lucky and Cyberpunk worked quite well for them. Such gamers were able to enjoy a good plot and good gameplay from the first person, and the plot was very interesting.
What a disappointment awaited gamers after the final credits, because the main character never reached his goal, regardless of the ending received… Both the players and V felt deceived or resigned to a difficult fate.
1st Place: Halo 2
There was a time when Halo 2 left the same impressions as the modern cinema rides from Marvel. And this is not because of the furious action, but thanks to endings, which led to the following parts…
The plot in Halo 2 is great, and few can argue with that, but the climax is letting him down… Especially considering how harsh and defective she was.
