Bioware has released a remaster of their most popular series, adding and improving a few things. Many of them went unnoticed by most players.
Mass Effect release Legendary Edition excited many fans of the space franchise. As soon as the game was released, observations of especially attentive players began to appear on the network, who shared bugs, new features, changes in gameplay, tips and tricks for newbies. Some even made long lists of arguments about why everyone should play the series.
In the midst of such a hype, it’s easy to overlook small, but important detailsthat the reissue brought with it. Composed TOP 10 will focus on just such things! Items are listed from tenth place to first.
Prothean visions
In the original first part of Shepard’s Mass Effect, at times had visions after touching the Protan lighthouse. They were very intermittent and illegible, and the frames were randomly replaced one after another.
Remastered Bioware made visions are clearer and made it possible to screen what is happening in order to better see the frames separately. The image above is just taken from a screenshot of the vision, which the user of Reddit managed to take. This is what the ancient Prothean city was supposed to look like.
Viewing the Earth from the surface of the Moon
In the Mass Effect series, often portrayed the Earth incorrectly, and noticed it from the first part. In it, you can look at our planet from the surface of the Moon, and the Earth is displayed upside down, like a reflection in a mirror.
Bioware decided to play up their oversight and made the planet rotate in the opposite direction in Mass Effect 2 and 3. During the passage of the Citadel expansion for the third part, you can see the news that the Earth began to rotate in the opposite direction.
In reissue “Jokes” cut out… The planet is now rotating in the correct direction and is shown not upside down.
Creating your own art
In anticipation of the Legendary Edition release, Bioware has launched a ton of free content for fans of the series. These “goodies” include a free downloadable soundtrack, comics and much more. Few people know about one of the most interesting functions. It’s about creating own art on this page of the official site of the game.
All you need to do is choose your favorite party members from all three parts, distributing roles between them, as well as determine Shepard’s behavior (hero, renegade, neutral) and location. Based on this, an image will be obtained that can be saved in good quality (4K).
Liara’s uniforms
When Shepard first meets Liara T’Soni in Mass Effect 1 and the future protagonist (judging by her popularity), with the exception of the protagonist, is dressed in an explorer’s uniform, she can be seen patch… In the original game, it was impossible to see what was written on the suit, but since the graphics were significantly tightened up in the reissue, now the symbols can be disassembled.
Bioware changed the order of the “words” compared to the first part, but their meaning remained the same as before: illegible. The patch reads: weriidhf hsdhsh jhhohasd oahsiohj… Most likely, this is a joke of Canadian developers, who so hinted at the low graphics in the original.
Reaching the maximum level in one playthrough
Trilogy fans will remember that reaching the maximum level in any of the parts required a lot of effort. It was necessary not only to complete all the secondary quests and activities, but also to start the second playthrough for the previous Shepard. Along with the introduction of the classic and legendary modes, Bioware changed the calculation of experience points in such a way that you can now get the maximum level in one campaign.
In Mass Effect Legendary Edition, getting the level cap in one playthrough is also not easy, but at least it is real and will work for those who like to explore all the games inside and out, not like additional quests.
Not always improved graphics
One of the main improvements in the remaster is that the graphic component of the first part is pulled up to the level of the second and third. But the visuals in the Legendary Edition aren’t always better than the original. An example can be seen in the image above. Ashley’s Mass Effect 1 re-release looks like this. angular and unnatural compared to the 2007 game. Fortunately, such downgrades are quite rare.
Renewed Pluto
Since the release of the original trilogy, humanity has received more detailed photographs of Pluto. Due to this in the Legendary Edition updated the model dwarf planet. At the same time, the Canadian developers left the initial beige scale, despite the fact that on modern planets the celestial body is depicted with red, blue and white.
Tali’s face
In the original franchise, there is only one option to see Tali Zora’s face. This is possible only if you start a romance, and towards the end of the trilogy, the quarian will give Shepard her photo without mask… This is actually a photo of Hamassa Kohistani, who won the 2005 Miss England beauty pageant. The image was specially made for Mass Effect with a powerful lens flare and subsequent image editing. Because of this, the face remained mysterious, which Tali’s lovers did not like.
In the Legendary Edition the photo of the quarian was replaced… Now this is a graphic with the visor of the mask down, where the face is clearly visible. Let the new picture look not as intimate as the previous one, but it is more suitable for the setting and finally reveals the appearance of Tali in full, and not with light on the half of the frame.
Using technology from mods
In many ways, the updated graphics do look great compared to the older parts, but some players who have used visual mods before may notice similarities. Turns out Bioware used developments from graphic mods fans by introducing improvements to the program code. The modification “A Lot of Textures” for the first Mass Effect played a big role.
Moreover, the developers said that some modders were directly involved in the creation of the remaster, collaborating with Bioware. This is how the content created by fans many years ago has become really useful in the future.
Renewed readiness of the Galaxy
Mass Effect 3 had galaxy readiness system, which showed how much she is ready to confront the Reapers. The original third installment was multiplayer, requiring multiple online play to quickly raise the readiness bar. Not all players liked this compulsion.
There is no multiplayer in the Legendary Edition, including the third Mass Effect. Because of this, the Galaxy’s readiness system had to be redesigned. It is now possible to increase the scale to the maximum without any network activity.
