Error 20006 in Fortnite

The cause of the problem

The fault is EasyAntiCheat (EAC) – a system for combating cheaters, which for some reason does not start. Fortnite will not work without anti-cheat and therefore gives an error. The issue is often preceded by a game client update.

Ways to solve error 20006

All actions are aimed at fixing an unknown problem with anti-cheat. Be sure to check first that both the game and the Epic Games client are disabled.

EAC recovery

Proceed as follows:

  • Open the folder where the game is installed. If you changed the default settings, it is “C: Program Files Epic Games Fortnite FortniteGame”.
  • Next, go to the directory with EAC. It is located in the internal folder: “Binaries Win64 EasyAntiCheat”… If you have a 32-bit OS, there will be a Win32 directory instead of Win64.
  • Find the file in the destination folder “EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe” and run it as administrator. Right click on the icon => select the appropriate item from the context menu.
  • The application will open. In the center, make sure that the line indicates the game “Fortnite”… Next click on “Repair Service” – this button is just below. After a couple of seconds, a notification will appear “Installed Successfully”
  • Close windows and try to launch the game

Checking the integrity of game files

To do this, follow these steps:

  • Launching “Epic Games Store” as Administrator. To do this, right-click on the icon and select the appropriate line in the drop-down list.
  • In the client window, go to the Fortnight section. On the right side of “Run” click on the gear icon.
  • In the new window, click on “Check”. The analysis of the game files will begin, which usually takes up to 10-15 minutes.
  • When finished, try launching Fortnite.

Reinstalling the EAC driver

Do the following in sequence:

  1. Make sure the OS is enabled to display hidden files. In Windows 10, this is done like this: in any folder, select the “View” tab at the top, in it the “Options” section. A new window will appear, in it go to the “View” tab, and a little lower in the window, look for the line “Hide protected …” and uncheck it. Just below, put a tick in the line “Show hidden …”. After – click below on “OK” and “Apply”.
  2. Open the directory “C: Windows System32 ″… Find the file in it “EasyAntiCheat.sys”… It can be deleted, moved, renamed. The main thing is that there is no file with that name in this folder.
  3. Start Fortnite. The client will “see” that important files are missing and will download them on his own.

For each method, at the end it is recommended to log out of your game profile and log back into it. Also, for the sake of reliability, it is worth restarting the PC.
